The Ramblers Association now have a greatly improved website which is an exceptional rescource for all walkers, hykers and young families wanting to go for walks with young children. This site lists everything from historical walks to guided walks and really audious walks.

Find A Walk Near Me by Walking Britain is a truly excellent and free resource. Just enter where you are or where you would like to walk - and print out directions. The walks are graded and you can buy a specific map of the area at the same time. These are proper OS maps and weather proofed if required.

I always think of walking as one of the few activities you can do for free - and now you can with this guide!

Walking, Hiking and Outdoor Shops

Dunvegan Bakery & Coffee Shop

Dunvegan, Isle of Skye IV55 8WA, UK – 01470 521326

Food was OK. Staff have that out of the way attitude to customers in that their closing time is more important than their customers requirements. I can see that they get business on the spill over from the restaurant that is over the road. If not starving, give the place a miss.

Had great hot sandwiches and tea. Very busy for a small operation so it took some time but worth the stop.

WalkingWorld.jpg
Another good one. Walkingworld has huge library of guides with a good selection of walks, of varying lengths and grades, pretty well anywhere in the country. The walks come in an excellent format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

A modist annual subscription gives you unlimited access to all the walks. However you can Pay As Go by downloading indiviual walks..

Camping and Caravaning

Kinloch Campsite

Kinloch Campsite, Dunvegan, Isle of Skye IV55 8WQ, UK – 01470 521531

Lovely, very friendly people. A stunning view. The campsite was very well maintained. The toilets and showers were in mint condition. There was even a washing area to do some laundry. Would strongly recommend.

We just stayed one night here, a lovely site with stunning location and great views across the loch. Good facilities, plenty of toilets and hot showers. Pitches are mostly hard standing with hookup and friendly/helpful staff.

Dunvegan Castle & Gardens

MacLeod Estate, Dunvegan House, Dunvegan, Isle of Skye IV55 8WF, UK – 01470 521206

A nice place, a real castle sometimes the owner live here. The portraits are beautiful, not too heavy. The garden was awesome. It's more a botanical garden that only a garden. So many flowers and trees beautifully enhanced. The only reason I have not put 5 stars is the price. 13£ it's a bit too much I think

The outer look of the castle not so special, but go inside and the ornamental nature of the place comes into full view. History, old artworks, sculpture are just a few things you will see. There is a 16th century Gaelic claymore sword that caught my eye. Outside there are 3 gardens the water garden was my favourite, it had waterfalls and streams among the flowers. I had a good day.

Dunvegan Hotel

A863, Isle of Skye IV55 8WA, UK – 01470 521497

Enjoyed a fantastic break at this hotel such a friendly atmosphere and so relaxed. Lovely breakfast and a view from my room to die for. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Nice dinner menu and great drinks selection at the. Bar. Was surprised to see some of the comments on here I for one don't go to the Isle of Skye to stay in some dull lifeless hotel that you get in the city this ticked all the boxes for me.

The place is old and needs some work in places, but our room was great and the staff were excellent. We had a view of the Loch and the mountains from our room and the breakfast table. Can't go wrong for what you are paying. Have the full breakfast to one of the the best breakfasts of our trip. Thanks again.
